Another one - sign up with the Direct Marketers Association to get off junk mail lists.

Oh Rowena, pressure cookers are so much friendlier than vats of hot oil! :-)

Hi Nupur! After I posted I was in the store checking out the powdered laundry detergent - yup, definitely worth switching! How funny that you were thinking about that at the same time! I've been bad about becoming educated on these topics and speaking up, but that is something I must certainly add to my list of goals for next year!

Hi Jonathan - what a great idea for a blog! I read your recent posts, but will be sure to check your archives for more ideas. Are you a student at UNC? I noticed the photo of the Old Well in one of your posts... me too! Go Heels!

Hi Mari! I was going to post a link to those beautiful shopping bags you made and had in your Etsy shop, but they weren't there any more! I'm just using the ones they sell in the grocery store, but will have to come up with something a little more attractive for other shopping. Actually, I have (or had) a net bag my mom gave me ages ago... I'll have to dig that up - it takes no space when empty.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11194828903719000019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-77973700682203343802007-10-16T18:57:00.000-04:002007-10-16T18:57:00.000-04:00Cathy, I'm so impressed with what you're doing. We're still very well-stocked on liquid laundry detergent, so I'm going to finish that. I've been using reusable shopping bags for ages. As recent as a year ago, people were staring at me like, "Look at little-miss-goodie-two-bags" and now they're all bringing theirs. Ha! I can't wait to have my own house where I can grow and compost.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-2903700925420004632007-10-16T10:59:00.000-04:002007-10-16T10:59:00.000-04:00Oh, I forgot to mention: keep me posted on how you...Oh, I forgot to mention: keep me posted on how you're doing in terms of reducing food waste. I have some specific tips on this topic on my Wasted Food blog under "The Weekly Waste Word" category. Hopefully, they're helpful.

Finally, after reading your point about not paying to ship water, I'll try dried beans instead of my once a week can of pintos.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-80075199851111177332007-10-16T06:03:00.000-04:002007-10-16T06:03:00.000-04:00What a great list, Cathy! All simple, everyday, do-able ideas :) and guess what, we switched to powder laundry detergent just last week :D
I think the best things about the "small ideas" that you and I are trying out is: it makes us much more likely to support and indeed, demand, big policy changes because it is making us more aware.Nupurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03890441057480820053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-90605958237421955922007-10-15T16:11:00.000-04:002007-10-15T16:11:00.000-04:00Great Blog Action Day post Cathy! I'm in tune with just about everything mentioned here, with the exception of the pressure cooker, and that was because I've always thought of it as an exploding device. Funny, I'm not afraid of deepfat frying but I've always had a phobia about pressure cookers! ;-)Rowenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15335673619430109527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-63934920543644584332007-10-15T13:45:00.000-04:002007-10-15T13:45:00.000-04:00OK, here's ,y two green centsworth!OK, here's ,y two green centsworth!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
