Actually, our dear departed friend has lots of buddies and relations that are enjoying many a blueberry dessert this summer courtesy of moi, so I think it's just that there's plenty to go around!

I've been thinking about freezing some this year. I've just got to clear out some space in my freezer - there's not an inch to spare at the moment. But you're right, it would be wonderful to have some blueberries to enjoy off season!Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11194828903719000019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120730391403477052005-07-07T05:59:00.000-04:002005-07-07T05:59:00.000-04:00Hi Cathy,Well you know why you have a bumper crop ...Hi Cathy,

Well you know why you have a bumper crop this year right? It's because someone isn't around to enjoy them as well.

That said, you've got tons of berries there. If I were you, I would freeze some of them for use at a later time. When blueberries are on sale here, I usually buy a lot, pick through them and then freeze them for use in making ice cream, sorbet, quick breads or muffins. They sometimes work better than fresh.Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03757257669831271556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120682459014842642005-07-06T16:40:00.000-04:002005-07-06T16:40:00.000-04:00Hi Alice - I know, even I'm amazed at the quantity...Hi Alice - I know, even I'm amazed at the quantity!Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11194828903719000019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120674780638460722005-07-06T14:33:00.000-04:002005-07-06T14:33:00.000-04:00WOW!WOW!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120623883354687922005-07-06T00:24:00.000-04:002005-07-06T00:24:00.000-04:00Hi Stephanie - actually we have a real deer proble...Hi Stephanie - actually we have a real deer problem here - they consumer practically every other plant - but for some reason they leave the blueberries alone. In the past the birds have eaten them before I got a chance to pick them, which is why I used to use bird netting. I stopped using it because a bird got caught in it last year. Anyway, you might be surprised and find that you can grow them!

Hi Milsabores - that's a good idea! It hadn't occurred to me to try to make my own. I don't suppose they are fried in deep fat are they?Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11194828903719000019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120595934167986292005-07-05T16:38:00.000-04:002005-07-05T16:38:00.000-04:00Heard about you liking arepas. So I will ask her where does she buy the Harina PAN (the flour for making arepas) so you can go buy it and make your own. Don't scare, just try and make them. They're very easy to make.

You wish you had arepas, I wish I had blueberries! jaja..Maria Luisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00346602152948154787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120581796797381632005-07-05T12:43:00.000-04:002005-07-05T12:43:00.000-04:00Wow!Alex would make short work of those, I'm afrai...Wow!

Alex would make short work of those, I'm afraid. You'd be amazed at the way the kid hoovers fresh fruit!

That's some blueberry bush you have. We have so much wildlife here (which we encourage), we'd never be able to grow them. I'm almost jealous!Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17090435662350578970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120562495487265862005-07-05T07:21:00.000-04:002005-07-05T07:21:00.000-04:00Hi Nic - that sounds good! I eat a lot of them just as they are and this year have been making a quick blueberry sauce to put on vanilla ice cream too (almost as good as pie - just no crust). I think I'm going to have to give some more away too.

Hi Rowena - no not a farm, just one bush! It has been amazingly prolific this year.

Those fruits sound so good - bet they were fun to make too.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11194828903719000019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120555649682369492005-07-05T05:27:00.000-04:002005-07-05T05:27:00.000-04:0015 pounds of blueberries!!! I am so envious. Now...15 pounds of blueberries!!! I am so envious. Now please don't tell me that you live on or own a blueberry farm, it would be just too much to bear!

Cathy, regarding your comment about the frozen fruit things. At the wedding, guests were simply helping themselves from a large serving platter of assorted frozen fruits. Little dessert forks and knives were used to eat them. With the ones I made though, I just picked one up and bit into it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7157527.post-1120533975258318512005-07-04T23:26:00.000-04:002005-07-04T23:26:00.000-04:00If only I could be so lucky!
