Rainy Days in Vermont

I spent a few days in June with Bob and Chuck in Vermont. The rain seemed unending, with the sun making only two very brief appearances toward the end of our stay. Bob and Chuck refused to let the soggy weather slow them down, and carried on with their gardening decked out in yellow rain gear. I was not nearly so determined and opted instead to curl up inside with a book. When the rains finally slowed to a trickle I did eventually offer a little assistance outside.

One nice thing about those gloomy skies - they provided perfect lighting for some close-ups of Bob and Chuck's beautiful garden.

Iris

Lupine

Lupine (and Thyme?)

Bleeding Heart

Poppy

Can't remember the name of this one - but Chuck was very proud of it

This little baby woodpecker lost his momma. He was very patient with my picture-taking for quite a while and then let out a frantic little cry. I hope she heard him!

Very beautiful photos, and makes me wish that we were on the ball this year for our garden. Of course my favorite is the baby woodpecker! I keep hoping to see one here. You've made my day with that pic!

Cathy, what gorgeous pictures! I had never seen anything like the "bleeding hearts" before! And I hope the baby found his mommy...

Hi Rowena - I was just going to post the flower photos, but I thought about you and I knew you'd like the one of the woodpecker!

Hi Nupur! Thanks so much! My mom always had bleeding heart in her garden, it is an unusual looking flower though. It's easy to find in garden shops, but I don't think you'll ever see it among cut flowers.

The Iris and the orange one are AMAZING!

Hey Cathy and guru...the orange flower is a Trollius...they also come in a beautiful bright yellow.

Cathy, those photos are stunning. Bleeding hearts? I've never heard of them but they are appropriately named. Looks like you had a nice time in Vermont (did you get a chance to pick up some Vermont maple syrup? I like to get Candadian and Vermont natives together to discuss maple syrup. Source of great - and sometimes contentious - debate between the two groups). best, m

Hi Guru - all the flowers were really beautiful!

Thanks Chuck! I couldn't for the life of me remember the name.

Hi Mari - thanks! No, I didn't buy any maple syrup on this trip, but I did get to taste some made by Bob and Chuck's neighbors!
